Leeds fans react to Shaun Harvey stepping down from EFL role

[ad_pod ]

EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey is to step down from his position at the end of the current league season, as reported by the BBC. The 48-year-old has been in the role since 2013, and has been in football for a quarter of a century.

In November 2018, he oversaw the agreement of a new five-year TV deal with Sky for a figure of £595 million. The agreement was heavily criticised by a number of EFL clubs and his reputation has suffered ever since.

Harvey was also the man who made the controversial call for a selection of top flight under-21 teams to enter the Checkatrade Trophy.

Prior to taking over as chief executive of the EFL, he served for nine years as CEO of Leeds United.

The Whites’ current relationship with the EFL is fractured, following the fallout from Marcelo Bielsa’s admission to spying on other teams’ training sessions.

Harvey is not a popular figure at Elland Road these days. Following the announcement of his impending exit, loads of Leeds fans took to Twitter to give their verdicts…

Aston Villa fans react to reports of Liam Lindsay interest

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun via HITC, Aston Villa are considering a move for Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay in this summer’s transfer window.

Lindsay joined Barnsley from Partick Thistle in 2017 and has made 79 appearances for his English club in all competitions.

The 23-year-old will see his current deal at Oakwell expire in June 2020, though, which suggests that he might be available this summer.

According to The Sun via HITC, Villa could swoop for the defender at the end of the season, with a transfer fee of £2.5m mentioned in the report.

Lindsay has been a regular for Barnsley in League One this season, whilst he made 42 Championship appearances for the club last term.

The Villa fans have been on social media reacting to the suggestions of interest.

And it would be fair to say that they are split when it comes to whether the 6ft 3in powerhouse would be a good signing for the club.

Between The Lines: Bielsa provides update on his future at Leeds

[ad_pod ]

Marcelo Bielsa has been some addition to the English game.

The 63-year-old took charge of Leeds United last summer and is in a good position to lead the club into the Premier League for the 2019-2020 campaign.

Bielsa signed a two-year contract upon his arrival last June, but the Argentine has given no guarantees over his future at Elland Road.

What has Bielsa said?

Bielsa told reporters, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post:

“The head coaches stay or leave depending on… when we draw the conclusion at the end of the season to see if we fulfilled the goals or not and we will take a decision from there.”

Bielsa’s words are fairly cryptic.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the head coach’s contract includes an option for Leeds to extend the agreement into a third season.

However, the South American has suggested that he might not be in charge of the club next season if they are not promoted to the Premier League.

It is always difficult to read into Bielsa’s words, but his quotes ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Queens Park Rangers appeared to suggest that his future largely depends on whether Leeds become a Premier League club.

The thought of Bielsa, who is Box Office, operating in the top flight is hugely exciting for the neutral, but his team still have a lot of work to do.

How are Leeds sitting in the table?

Nineteen wins, seven draws and seven defeats – that is how Leeds have performed this season. A total of 64 points has left them third in the Championship table, just two points off the leaders Norwich City.

The Whites have a game in hand over both Norwich and second-placed Sheffield United, who are ahead of Bielsa’s team on goal difference.

Leeds have won their last two league fixtures against Swansea City and Bolton Wanderers, but now face a very tough test away to QPR on Tuesday night.

The former Champions League semi-finalists will then host West Bromwich Albion and visit Bristol City in their first two matches of March.

It is a huge period of the season for Leeds and whilst they have been impressive this term, the future might not be so bright if they fail to earn promotion this season, potentially losing Bielsa in the process.

Leeds fans are missing Samu Saiz following QPR loss

[ad_pod ]

Luke Freeman netted in the 49th minute as Queens Park Rangers beat Leeds United 1-0 in the Championship on Tuesday night.

It was a hugely frustrating evening for the Whites, who remain third in the table and now level on games with Sheffield United and Norwich City.

Leeds seriously lacked guile against the Rs and a number of the club’s fans have claimed that allowing Samu Saiz to leave last month is costing the team.

Saiz managed four assists in 19 Championship appearances for Leeds in the first half of the season before joining Getafe on loan.

The 27-year-old has since made six La Liga outings and is likely to join the Spanish club on a permanent deal at the end of the campaign.

According to a number of Leeds fans, the QPR defeat on Tuesday night highlighted that the team are missing a player of Saiz’s ilk, which could cost them promotion.

History is made: Tottenham fans react as the first goal is scored at the new stadium

Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter after the first goal was scored at the new stadium by 17-year-old J’Neil Bennett.

Tottenham were allowing their Under-18’s to play at the £1bn arena as part of a test event, in order to secure a safety certificate from the local council which will allow them to officially open the stadium for the Premier League match against Crystal Palace on April 3rd.

30,000 fans made their way to the new stadium, which is also eligible to host NFL fixtures, after having to watch their team at Wembley for almost two full seasons.

The second test event, which will need to have an attendance of 45,000, is set to go ahead next weekend when a Spurs legends side face an Inter Milan legends team of their own.

Let’s see how the Spurs fans on Twitter reacted to the new stadium’s first goal…

Manchester United set to confirm Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as boss on a permanent basis

[ad_pod ]

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are set to confirm the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis, after the interim boss oversaw a remarkable upturn in results since taking the reigns at Old Trafford.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Norwegian has already confirmed that his contract with former club Molde has been torn up, leaving him all set to manage the Red Devils beyond the current campaign.

Solskjaer has navigated his troops to a phenomenal run of just one defeat in 17 games since taking over from Jose Mourinho towards the end of December, and the recent comeback victory against Paris Saint-Germain appears to have convinced United chiefs that he is the man to take them forward.

Watch the video below to find out what Jesse Lingard is like off the pitch in the latest Match Of The Bae with Emma Conybeare…

The former Cardiff manager will reportedly see his wages rise to a whopping £7.5m-a-year, compared to the £400k-a-year he was taking home whilst with Molde – however, Solskjaer will be earning exactly half of the wage that Mourinho picked up whilst at Old Trafford.

A complete masterstroke

Everything about this news is good for United. In terms of finances, morale, and results, the appointment of Solskjaer is fantastic news for everyone associated with the club.

As mentioned in the aforementioned article, the 46-year-old is happy to earn significantly less than Mourinho due to his love for the club and desire to take the reigns on a permanent basis, which will leave United officials beaming as they have saved a huge amount of cash and come out sunny side up in doing so.

Additionally, key players such as Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba will love the news, seeing as Solskjaer was manager of the Under-23 side during their time in the youth ranks and oversaw a crucial stage of their development – it was the Norwegian that gave Lingard his debut in the reserves.

While Lingard has been held back by injuries, Pogba has looked like arguably the best midfielder in Europe since Solskjaer looked the helm, bagging nine goals and eight assists in 19 appearances. Reports suggesting he will be working with the interim boss on a permanent basis will surely fill him with confidence of sustaining this current level of form.

Khan must appoint David Wagner

Fulham currently find themselves in a spot of bother in the relegation zone, with Claudio Ranieri’s recent sacking only adding to the disappointment at Craven Cottage.

Claudio Ranieri won only three of his 17 games as manager after taking over from Slavisa Jokanovic, and he’s now left them 10 points from safety with 10 games left.

The Cottagers have appointed Scott Parker as caretaker manager with former first-team coach Stuart Gray joining as his assistant. But, fans will be more focused on who Shahid Khan will decide to appoint at the end of the season, with relegation to the Championship looking a certainty at this moment in time.

Indeed, the manager who Khan simply has to go all out to secure is former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner.

Of course, relegation hasn’t officially been confirmed, but Fulham will find themselves back in the Premier League by 2020 if Khan appoints David Wagner at the end of the season following potential relegation. He performed miracles last season to first take Huddersfield into the Premier League and then keep them there against all odds.

He also managed to create an extremely tight bond with the players in the Championship, despite bringing in 13 new faces prior to the start of the 2016-17 season. Indeed, the Cottagers have failed to get the best out of a number of their summer signings after spending big prior to the start of this season, so he could definitely sort out that mess.

Wagner promotes an attractive, attacking style that could definitely bring excitement back to Craven Cottage, and his experience from securing promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs during his time at Huddersfield could prove invaluable as the Championship is arguably one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.

Fulham fans – Thoughts?

Don’t do it, Solskjaer! Manchester United to hijack Arsenal and Chelsea’s pursuit of Adrien Rabiot

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, Manchester United are reportedly set to hijack Arsenal and Chelsea’s moves for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who will be available for free in the summer.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Frenchman is refusing to sign a new deal with the Parisians with his current contract set to expire in the summer, and is said to have held talks with Barcelona, Tottenham, the Gunners and the Blues.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is preparing a list of targets to overhaul an ageing midfield containing the likes of Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata, both of whom are 30 years of age, whilst Ander Herrera is only a year younger.

Is the emergance of a ‘big 6’ good news for English clubs in Europe? Pl>ymaker FC’s Ed Tarlton certainly thinks to in the video below…

It is believed that Rabiot would demand a weekly wage of £200k-a-week if he were to move to Old Trafford, as well as a huge £10m signing-on fee, which the Red Devils are said to be willing to pay.

Huge mistake

Perhaps the most significant thing that Solskjaer has done since taking over from Jose Mourinho is instilling a huge amount of self belief and confidence into a United squad previously bereft of such.

In doing so, the Norwegian boss has created a fantastic morale amongst the squad, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku all in good spirits now the shackles of Mourinho’s football and harsh words in the media are gone.

So, by signing Rabiot, a man who is currently expelled from the club after being told to stay away following his actions after the Champions League defeat to United, would be extremely detrimental to morale.

The 23-year-old was sanctioned by PSG after going out partying in a nightclub following the embarrassing, last-gasp defeat, and has also come under scrutiny after liking an Instagram post from Patrice Evra celebrating United’s progression into the quarter-finals at the expense of Rabiot’s own side.

Solskjaer has got something good going at Old Trafford right now, and would be stupid to plague that with the signing of a seemingly bad egg in Rabiot.
