Leeds: Farke has "interest" in "unbelievable" star who can "dazzle"

Leeds United target Grady Diangana will leave West Bromwich Albion before the end of the window amid interest in his services from England and abroad, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Which clubs are keen on Grady Diangana this window?

As per The Express & Star, Leeds United, Leicester City, Burnley and clubs in Saudi Arabia are keen on offering Diangana a new challenge this summer away from the Hawthorns.

The report states that West Brom are likely to demand a fee of £7 million for the former England youth international, though Saudi Arabian sides could have an advantage in the race to sign Diangana as their financial reach could outstrip that of their competitors in the United Kingdom.

Former Baggies striker Kevin Campbell is of the opinion that Diangana could leave his current employers this window, stating in an interview with West Brom News last month: “I could see him leaving and I think there’s an opportunity for him to leave. He’s a good player, but he could be leaving. So obviously, Corberan, who’s a good manager may be going in a different direction and there’s going to be a deal and with a good fee that can be negotiated."

Last term, Diangana made 35 appearances across all competitions for West Brom, registering four goals and three assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Lubumbashi-born Diangana, who has been hailed as "unbelievable" and "can dazzle", didn't feature for West Brom in their opening fixture of the campaign against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park where the hosts ran out 2-1 winners, as per BBC Sport.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Jacobs thinks that Diangana will leave West Brom before the end of the window, though it remains to be seen where he will end up and whether they will try to increase his asking price.

Jacobs stated: ""The Leeds interest is there for sure as well. Leicester City have taken a look and Burnley have tracked the player as well.

"So, I would expect this one to get done to one of those clubs over the course of the next few weeks, just because there's such a high volume of interest there.

"Because of that high volume of interest, obviously West Bromwich Albion can leverage the clubs and play them against each other to get the biggest possible fee, which means that it probably will be closer to £10m than £5m."

What next for Leeds United?

Leeds United are said to be 'monitoring' the situation of Coventry City playmaker Gustavo Hamer and suitors have been put on alert as he is into the last year of his deal at the Sky Blues, as per Football Insider.

Greek outlet Sportime claim that AZ Alkmaar defender Pantelis Chatzidiakos has decided that he wants to move to Leeds United despite neither club coming to an agreement over a fee for the player.

Borussia Monchengladbach's former manager Daniel Farke.

Corriere Del Veneto via MOT Leeds News report that Venezia striker Joel Pohjanpalo is on the radar ar Elland Road amid stiff competition from Blackburn Rovers, Norwich City, Cagliari and West Bromwich Albion to sign the Finland international.

In the next few weeks, we will see if the Whites do indeed have any more tricks up their sleeve in the market as the final month of the window veers on.

Leeds "In The Race" To Sign £1.3k-p/w Midfield "Technician"

Leeds United are “in the race” to sign Paris Saint-Germain starlet Edouard Michut this summer, but a new report has revealed just how many teams are in the mix.

Who is Edouard Michut?

Michut is primarily a central midfielder who has played his football at the Parc des Princes ever since his childhood days, having graduated from the academy to get promoted to Luis Enrique’s first team back in January 2022. But having only ever made eight senior appearances, his future is extremely uncertain.

Last term, France’s youth international was sent out on a season-long loan to Championship rivals Sunderland where he started 12 games in the second-tier, so knows what it takes to compete at the required level, and whilst he’s since returned to his parent club where he has two years remaining on his contract, it’s unlikely he’ll be staying put.

Culture PSG’s Luca Demange was recently asked during a public interview whether the 20-year-old would be able to stake his claim in the Ligue 1 outfit’s starting squad this season, to which he replied:

“I don’t think so. Michut is coming back to PSG to bounce back better. He recently told L’Equipe that he wants to find the project that suits him best. His year at Sunderland was a good experience and he’s now aiming for another stage in his progression”.

Are Leeds signing Edouard Michut?

Taking to Twitter X, journalist Dominik Schneider revealed that Leeds are one of three clubs who are seriously in the running to secure the services of Michut before the end of the ongoing summer transfer window. He wrote:

“Excl. Two #Bundesliga clubs show interest in Edouard #Michut from #PSG. #TSGHoffenheim + #FCAugsburg have inquired about possibilities of loan or transfer. #LeedsUnited still in the race. No concrete offer yet, waiting for PSG.”

Sunderland's former loan midfielderEdouard Michut.

How much does Edouard Michut earn?

At PSG, Michut currently pockets just £1.3k-per-week which would make him the lowest-earner at Leeds. And not only would he be an extremely cheap player to recruit, but the central talisman would also be a real “technician” in the middle of the park, as dubbed by Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray.

The youngster ranked in the 93rd percentile for tackles and recorded an 87.8% pass success rate last season, which was higher than any of the regular starters achieved at Elland Road, highlighting that he’s not afraid to get stuck in but equally holds a calmness and composure on the ball.

Sponsored by Nike, the talented prospect also has the ability to positively impact the game in the final third having scored four goals and provided one assist since the start of his career whilst also ranking in the 87th percentile for successful take-ons, showing his desire to dribble past his marker and create chances in and around the opposition’s box.

Finally, Michut would provide Daniel Farke with some much-needed versatility having previously operated in both defensive and attacking midfield alongside his usual role in the centre, so should the 49ers be successful in their pursuit, he would be a really exciting recruit for the long-term future of the club.

Samit Patel and Nat Sciver have been recognised by their peers with respective Player of the Year titles at the Professional Cricketers’ Association awards night.Patel, the Nottinghamshire allrounder, won the Reg Hayter Cup after being voted the PCA Players’ Player of the Year, following his starring role in Nottinghamshire’s impressive season where they won both white-ball competitions – the Royal London Cup and NatWest T20 Blast – and secured promotion in the County Championship.Patel topped the voting ahead of Kumar Sangakkara, who signed off his first-class career by averaging over 100 in the Championship for Surrey, Essex’s Jamie Porter, the leading wicket-taker of the season, and Glamorgan’s Colin Ingram who made over 1000 runs in white-ball cricket. He was Nottinghamshire’s leading run-scorer in the Championship with 906 at 53.29 and also claimed 19 wickets. He also topped the county’s run chart in the Royal London Cup – and was fourth overall – with 539 at 67.37 then added 405 runs and 16 wickets in the T20 Blast. His success has been enough to have him floated as a possible replacement for Ben Stokes should the latter be withdrawn from the Ashes.PCA award winners

“It’s a great honour to be voted by your peers. It’s a great feeling and it demonstrates how well we have done as a team and individually this season,” Patel said. “I’m a little bit surprised actually. To be up there with a world-class player like Sanga, with the amount of runs that he scored in a short amount of time, is a privilege in itself.”Allrounder Sciver, part of the World Cup-winning side, was named England’s Player of the Summer ahead of Tammy Beaumont and Alex Hartley. Sciver scored 369 runs at 46.12 and took seven wickets to help England secure the title and, during the tournament, had a shot named after her.The ‘Nat-Meg’ was unveiled, at least to a wider audience, during her 129 off 111 balls against New Zealand when Sciver deliberately deflected a leg-stump yorker through her legs for two runs. Earlier in the tournament she had scored a career-best 137 against Pakistan which included England’s fastest World Cup century off 76 balls. In the final against India, played at a sold-out Lord’s, Sciver held England’s middle order together with 51 off 68 balls to help them to 228 for 7, which ultimately proved just enough thanks to Anya Shrubsole’s inspired spell.”Nothing can take away from that day at Lord’s and just being there with the whole team and the girls who didn’t quite make the 15 so we were there as a squad,” Sciver said. “This caps off a brilliant year for us and hopefully we can produce a few more brilliant years. To be voted by my peers is a really nice feeling.”There are a few other players who could have been nominated as well. It was a performance by the full 15 in the squad, so I am very lucky. In the other awards, Porter picked up two prizes – the Young Player of the Year and the County Championship award for his 75 wickets at 16.82 in Essex’s unbeaten campaign. His success has earned him a place on the England Lions tour of Australia next month. The England Test and one-day awards went to James Anderson and Joe Root respectively, Ingram was named the Royal London Cup Player of the Year and Wayne Madsen took the same title for the NatWest t20 Blast. In the PCA’s 50th year – the organisation’s first meeting was on September 4, 1967 in London – they gave a lifetime achievement award to the founder Fred Rumsey.”In our 50th Anniversary year it is only fitting that our Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to one of our founding members, Fred Rumsey,” David Leatherdale, the PCA chief executive said. “His courage and determination some 50 years ago has enabled the PCA to become the respected organisation it is today.”PCA team of the year Alex Hales(Nottinghamshire), Mark Stoneman (Surrey), Colin Ingram (Glamorgan), Kumar Sangakkara (Surrey), Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire), Darren Stevens (Kent), Ben Cox (Worcestershire), Kyle Abbott (Hampshire), Craig Overton (Somerset), Simon Harmer (Essex), Jamie Porter (Essex)

Wolves Could Sign "Tremendous" £4m Neves Replacement

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in Championship starlet Jordan James, as Julen Lopetegui desperately seeks reinforcements this summer.

The Spaniard admitted he was “worried” about the future of his squad during the Old Gold’s pre-season festivities, with Wolves struggling to raise the finances to bring in much-needed improvements.

Could Wolves sign Jordan James?

As reported by journalist Alan Nixon, the Midlands club are eyeing a move for Birmingham City midfielder James.

The 19-year-old is a player Wolves have been ‘keeping tabs’ on, in a move that could suit Lopetegui with him being valued around £4m by Football Transfers.

Contracted until 2025, the Old Gold are joined by Tottenham and Everton as the Premier League representatives eyeing the young talent.

Who is Jordan James?

Praised as being a “tremendous asset” by former Blues boss Lee Bowyer aged just 17, the midfielder has become an integral part of the rotation in Birmingham’s squad.

Making 33 appearances in the Championship last season, the teenager showcased his talents and added to his tally of 20 appearances in the second tier the year prior.

While Wolves would’ve ideally wanted to replenish their side with a player of the same calibre as Ruben Neves following the captain’s departure, the young Welshman could be an ideal addition to Lopetegui’s squad.

The Old Gold received £47m for the sale of the Portuguese gem, however, due to ongoing financial struggles, the club are facing great difficulty in securing the signatures of players this summer.

A relegation-threatened season that ended with a relieving 13th place finish thanks to the expertise of Lopetegui, however, the Spaniard is facing a denial of resources to improve this side ahead of the new campaign.

The potential move for James could add a much-needed presence in the midfield at Molineux, with a player that has similar strengths to the departed captain.

A combative midfielder with an eye for a good pass, the 19-year-old could develop his game in the Midlands, at a time when a glimmer of hope in a young signing could be fundamental to the progression of the transitioning squad.

As per FBref, the Blues academy graduate averaged 1.72 tackles and 1.46 clearances per 90 in the Championship last term, highlighting his defensive stability in the engine room.

The youngster’s numbers also suggest his potential in distribution, where he recorded an average of 4.12 progressive passes and 3.52 passes into the final third per 90.

For context, Neves averaged 6.50 progressive passes per 90 in the Premier League over the last year and 2.36 tackles, giving a perspective on how efficient the teenager could be in Lopetegui’s side with room to grow from the early stages of his budding career.

The Welshman has acted as the natural successor to former Blues sensation Jude Bellingham, and could now opt for pastures new to fill the void left by Neves in the top tier.

If the teenager performed at a level as sufficiently as he has at St Andrew’s at Molineux, the deal could give Lopetegui some breathing space as he prepares for a challenging term ahead.

Stokes incident a 'touchy' subject for Australia coach Lehmann

Darren Lehmann, Australia’s coach, has admitted that seeing footage of Ben Stokes allegedly involved in a street brawl in Bristol has been a “touchy” issue for him, in light of his memories of the incident in Melbourne 13 years ago when his friend and mentor David Hookes died after being punched to the ground by a hotel bouncer.Speaking at the Hurstville Oval in Sydney, where he was watching Mitchell Starc’s return to action for New South Wales, Lehmann was reminded of the events of the fateful night in January 2004, when Hookes struck his head on the ground after being felled in an altercation in St Kilda, and suffered a cardiac arrest. He never regained consciousness.”It’s happening all around the world, to be fair. Not just one incident,” Lehmann told The Sydney Morning Herald. “[We’ve] got to be careful with what we do outside, anywhere. It’s a touchy one for me.”I can’t say much obviously, it’s with the ECB and I don’t know the whole story, no one does I don’t think. Really, it’s left with them and [we’ll] see what they do, but we can’t control what they do with Ben or any of their players.”What we’ve got to worry about is getting our best XI to play really good cricket. At the end of the day, I have my personal views but at the moment, until I get the whole story, I’m not going to share them.”Darren Berry, the former coach of South Australia, was another witness to the Hookes incident and last week admitted that the Bristol footage had brought back “horrific memories”. But Lehmann stopped short of comparing the two incidents and said it was not his job to tell the ECB what disciplinary measures should be taken against Stokes if the police choose to press charges against him. But, asked how Stokes would be received by the Australian public if he made it onto the tour, Lehmann replied: “You’d have to ask the 25 million people in Australia. Me as the coach, I’ll probably stay away from that one as well. I think it will be interesting. We’ll only know if he comes and if he plays.”England are currently the holders of the Ashes, after winning at home 3-2 in 2015. However, Australia inflicted a crushing 5-0 whitewash when the sides last met down under in 2013-14, and despite the possibility of their star allrounder missing out, Lehmann was counting no chickens ahead of the first Test at Brisbane on November 23.”They’re obviously improved players,” he said. “Everyone is talking about four years ago or two years ago in England. We can’t worry about that.”They’ve played some good cricket. They’re probably a bit like us, inconsistent at times. It’s going to be the team that withstands the pressure early on in the series [that has the edge]. Their younger guys will be under pressure, there’s no doubt about that, but same as our guys.”

West Brom: Baggies set to sign Josh Maja

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly close to signing Josh Maja on a free transfer.

What’s the latest West Brom transfer news?

It has been a relatively quiet summer so far ahead of Carlos Corebran’s first full season in charge at The Hawthorns. Attacking midfielder Jeremy Sarmiento has been the only arrival prior to the new Championship campaign, but there have been a number of departures.

Dara O'Shea has left to join newly-promoted Burnley, whereas Jake Livermore has signed for Watford on a free transfer. Tom Rogic was also let go and Karlan Grant and Zac Ashworth have joined Cardiff City and Bolton Wanderers on loan.

Corberan previously admitted that he wanted two players in every position by the end of the window, saying last month:

"If in the Championship you don't have 22 players and two players in every position, it's going to be difficult.

"The number of substitutes we can make is the same as last year – five – but we can now have two more players in the bench than last year. The squads with more good players are going to have some advantages. They'll have good players to cover all the needs of the games."

Further reinforcements in attack therefore are seemingly needed, with Daryl Dike currently injured leaving Brandon Thomas-Asante as the only fit striker, and it looks as if the manager will get his wish when it comes to a move for Maja.

According to The Express and Star, West Brom are close to signing Maja on a free transfer, with the player even undergoing a medical on Monday.

An announcement is thought to be imminent, with The Express and Star’s Lewis Cox taking to Twitter, describing it as a boost for the opening game of the new season on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers.

“Albion closing in on free transfer Josh Maja. Excitement at Hawthorns at netting long-term target, who Bordeaux wanted to keep and also had interest from Boro & Sheff Wed. Good goal return last term & only 24. Boost for Sat.”

Josh Maja

Who is Josh Maja?

Maja is 24 years of age and has previously been on the books of Sunderland and Bordeaux, with loan moves at Fulham and Stoke City also on his CV.

An out-and-out striker, the Nigeria international scored 46 goals in 142 appearances for Sunderland and Bordeaux, netting on five occasions in total during his time with Fulham and Stoke.

He has been praised by Jermain Defoe in the past, who played alongside the player at the Stadium of Light, describing Maja as a player with "electric pace".

“When he trained with the first team he showed such great awareness – he knew when to pass it, had a great touch – and although he’s not got electric pace, he’s two steps ahead of everyone which means he’s got an immediate advantage.

“The gift Josh has is rare and if he builds on it, the sky’s the limit.”

Maja has only played against the Baggies once, where he produced an assist for Stoke in a 3-1 win after a brilliant run and pass, and by the looks of things, he’ll soon call The Hawthorns his home.

Spurs transfer news: "Unbelievable" player "would consider" joining

A move to Tottenham Hotspur is something Manchester United's Harry Maguire would "consider", even without the lure of Champions League football, claims journalist Paul Brown.

Is Harry Maguire joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer?

In a shock to absolutely nobody, Spurs' summer window has once again been dominated by another Harry Kane transfer saga, with links to German giants Bayern Munich refusing to disperse and, if anything, getting stronger as the Bavarians become more bullish in their attempts to sign the England captain.

With only a year left on his £200,000-a-week deal, this saga will continue dominating the narrative around the Lilywhites until a decision is made.

However, this isn't necessarily the worst thing, as it might mean that the club can go about making their own signings with less scrutiny, and so far, they have added real quality to both the first team and squad.

The marquee signing is undeniably James Maddison, but Guglimlo Vicario and Manor Solomon look like shrewd acquisitions in a market increasingly losing any touch it once had with reality.

Former Leicester midfielder James Maddison.

However, for as good as the recruitment has been thus far, the one area of the team that needs the most attention is centre-back, as the club managed to ship a staggering 63 goals across their 38 Premier League games last season.

The two names linked to the club the most over the last few weeks have been Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen and Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. However, another name has recently entered the rumour mill, former United captain Maguire.

According to reports from Spain (via Football 365), the England international is emerging as a critical target for the Lilywhites as his time at Old Trafford looks to have finally come to an end.

What has Paul Brown said about Harry Maguire and Tottenham Hotspur?

Brown explained that even without the lure of Champions League football, Spurs is a club that Maguire would consider, primarily due to its size and stature.

Speaking to Football FanCast, he said: "I think Maguire at Spurs is quite an interesting one. It might be a club he'd consider. I know obviously, they finished well off the Champions League pace last season, so I don't have that to offer him but I think you know, the size of the club and the reputation of it.

"I think it's something, I think it's a move he would consider."

Should Tottenham sign Harry Maguire?

One thing the club should be prepared for if they do pull the trigger on this signing is the fan backlash. The image Maguire has cultivated over the last few years is one of a walking disaster, and fans might fear the worst should he join.

However, as with many opinions in football, it's not entirely true, and the former Foxes man could certainly be useful to Ange Postecoglou in his new-look Spurs side.

His underlying numbers, for example, are actually quite impressive and suggest that in the right system, he could well get back to his best form, the form that saw him earn that £80m move to the Red Devils in the first place.

Harry Maguire has lost the armband.

According to FBref, who compare players in a similar position across Europe's top five leagues, the "unbelievable" 6 foot 4 sits in the top 11% for blocks, the top 12% for aerial duals won, the top 13% for touches in the oppositions penalty area, the top17% for attempted passes, the top 19% progressive carries, and the top 26% for progressive passes received, all per 90.

It should also be noted that in the last World Cup, he was voted into Sky Sports' Team of the Tournament, and in Euro 2020 – when England almost won it all – he was named in the official Team of the Tournament.

Ultimately, if Spurs can get this deal done for a relatively low price and weather the stick and attention they'll surely get, this could end up being a great piece of business.

Leeds United: Farke wants to sell £50k-p/w star ahead of Gnonto

Leeds United would rather sell 26-year-old winger Jack Harrison, who earns £50k per week, than youngster Wilfried Gnonto this summer, according to Dean Jones.

Is Jack Harrison leaving Leeds?

Leeds have already had to deal with a number of big players leaving the club this summer. The likes of Rodrigo, Brenden Aaronson and Marc Roca have all departed on either permanent or loan deals and it's expected that more will follow.

While selling has become a necessity for Leeds now they are in the Championship, fans will still be concerned seeing a number of top-quality talents heading for the exit door, with the club not recouping much in the way of transfer fees.

Another man that has been linked with a departure is talented Italian speedster Gnonto. The 19-year-old has been subject of interest from Everton among a host of other clubs, with the expectation being that he may leave Leeds in a £20m move to Merseyside.

Read the latest Leeds United transfer news HERE….

However, recent reports have indicated that Gnonto is not entirely sold on the Everton project and could consider sticking with Leeds in the second tier instead.

In that eventuality, Leeds may turn to selling Harrison according to journalist Jones, who was hailed by former manager Jesse Marsch as an "intelligent" player, and a deal would set any interested club back £16m per the player's release clause.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones stated: "It’s a strange situation because the interest levels haven’t been at the levels I would have expected when they were relegated.

"The information around the situation, as it stands, is that Leeds would sell Harrison more willingly than Gnonto. The bids for him haven’t come in at the moment, though."

Harrison was the subject of interest from Leicester City in January but Leeds' unwillingness to sell meant a move never materialised. The Foxes could revive their pursuit of the winger but the Whites would probably be reluctant to sell to a Championship title rival.

The former Manchester City man has made 206 appearances for Leeds, scoring 34 and providing 32 assists, and his experience of navigating the Championship may be sorely missed by Daniel Farke should he leave.

Who are Leeds signing?

Despite having had to witness more outgoings than incomings so far, Leeds' transfer window almost feels like it is starting now when it comes to signings.

They have brought in Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea for £7m plus add-ons and have recently announced the signing of Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow to compete with Illan Meslier between the sticks.

Given the number of departures, Leeds still need a fair few new faces if they want to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Farke has a difficult job on his hands, but the completion of the recent takeover may loosen the purse strings at Elland Road.

Swansea City's prolific centre-forward Joel Piroe has been linked as the Whites look for a more reliable goalscorer than Patrick Bamford. The 23-year-old scored 19 goals in the Championship last season but would likely cost Leeds a large transfer fee to get a deal done.

At the other end of the pitch, Leeds have reportedly started negotiations for Everton defender Mason Holgate, with the 26-year-old perhaps seen as surplus to requirements by Sean Dyche.
