Spurs: Paratici in Antony transfer talks

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Antony to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.

What’s the word?

That’s according to a report by The Independent (via The Sun), who claim that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are currently in talks with Ajax regarding a move for the 22-year-old winger.

The report goes on to state that Steven Bergwijn, who is a well-known target of the Eredivisie side, could be offered in a player swap deal, with Spurs valuing the Netherlands international at a figure of around €30m (£26m).

Finally, it is claimed that, despite new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag being extremely keen on securing a reunion with his former player at Old Trafford this summer, Tottenham feel that Ajax’s interest in Bergwijn could hand them an advantage in the race for the €70m (£60m) Brazil international.

“Something different”

Considering the quite extraordinary form Antony was in for Ajax last season, it is unsurprising to learn that Conte and Paratici are interested in a deal to bring the 22-year-old to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Indeed, over his 23 Eredivisie appearances in 2021/22, the £31.5m-rated talent highly impressed for De Godenzonen, scoring eight goals, registering four assists and creating seven big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 3.4 shots, making 1.7 key passes and completing 1.8 dribbles per game.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

The £19k-per-week winger also contributed in a defensive capacity, making an average of 0.5 interceptions, 1.0 tackles, winning possession 1.0 times and being victorious in 4.8 duels – at a success rate of 51% – per fixture.

These returns saw the player who Andre Noruega dubbed “unreal” average a quite remarkable SofaScore match rating of 7.44, not only ranking him as Ten Hag’s third-best performer in the league but also as the seventh-best player in the division as a whole.

However, it was not only in domestic competition that Antony impressed, as the left-footer also scored two goals, provided four assists and created three big chances over his seven Champions League outings last term, with these metrics seeing the forward average an equally breathtaking SofaScore match rating of 7.43 – ranking him as the 14th-best player in the tournament.

As such, it is clear to see just how much talent the player Jacek Kulig claimed is “something different” possesses, leading us to believe that, should Paratici manage to get a deal for the Brazilian over the line this summer, it would undoubtedly be one of the biggest coups of the window.

AND in other news: “Tottenham are..”: Fabrizio Romano drops big transfer update, it’ll have Conte buzzing

Fabrizio Romano drops Everton transfer news

Everton are in desperate need to add reinforcements to their squad after a difficult season in the Premier League, and now a potential setback has been revealed from a reliable source.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed more details on the ongoing situation with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur over their interest in signing Richarlison this summer.

Romano took to his Caught Offside column to confirm that Spurs are in talks with the Brazilian winger’s new agents, however, the Merseyside club wants €70-75m (£60.4m – £64.8m).

So far their valuation of Richarlison has not been met according to the report, but Tottenham are interested in the player along with other clubs.

Supporters will be deflated

There is no doubt that supporters will be deflated with the news that Richarlison is looking likely to leave Goodison Park this summer, especially when you consider his importance in the team.

Richarlison was the top goal scorer for the Toffees this season with 11 goals and came to the rescue at the business end of the Premier League campaign to deliver six important goals in the last ten games, making a huge impact on Everton’s survival following a difficult relegation battle.

The 25-year-old’s goal contributions and influence would surely be a huge loss to Frank Lampard if he was to leave ahead of next season, however if the club can earn the transfer fee they have set for the Brazilian it would give Everton the chance to reinvest and identify a worthy replacement.

The Toffees have been linked with a number of potential forwards with Lucas Moura and Armando Broja both named as potential transfer options for the club this summer, and Farhad Moshiri will need to make sure he works hard to identify the right replacement to ensure Everton are not caught short.

Ultimately, Lampard will need to prepare for the worst-case scenario that Richarlison will leave this summer and focus on planning for the season ahead to ensure the Merseyside club does not find themselves repeating the mistakes of last season all over again.

Cornet would solve key West Ham issue

West Ham have been linked with a move for Burnley star Maxwel Cornet recently and the 25-year-old could solve a key issue for David Moyes at the London Stadium ahead of next season.

What’s the word?

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the Hammers could ‘definitely’ make a move to sign the Ivorian this summer, following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

He told GIVEMESPORT:

“I could definitely see West Ham making a move for Cornet. This relegation release clause makes Cornet very attractive to a number of clubs, not just in the Premier League but probably abroad as well.

“I think Cornet had a good debut season in the Premier League for Burnley; he was one of their better players.”

Although he only joined Burnley last summer, the former Lyon man will surely be keen to continue his stay in the Premier League after a standout season that saw him finish as the Lancashire side’s top scorer in the top flight.

He is also reportedly available for just £17.5m due to a relegation release clause in his contract, so would represent a fairly cheap option for the Hammers this summer.

Solving a key headache:

It is a common consensus among West Ham fans that their season dropped off last year due to a lack of squad depth and January signings, as players were regularly forced to play twice a week after their run to the Europa League semi-final.

Moyes lacked a backup striker to Michail Antonio and with the Jamaica international sadly quite injury-prone, it was always going to be difficult for the Hammers to maintain their early season form throughout the campaign.

They could also be said to lack depth at left-back, with Arthur Masuaku inconsistent at the best of times, and Aaron Cresswell showing his vulnerability with costly red cards against Lyon and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Cornet’s performances last season earned a lot of plaudits, including from Roy Keane, a man who is notoriously difficult to impress.

He said: “He started the season really well with some real quality goals.

“Brilliant strike rate and technique. He is obviously a big plus to Burnley. He hit the ground running, with some brilliant strikes. Fantastic.”

Therefore, signing someone as versatile as Cornet, who is more than capable of playing as a left-back, winger or striker, would make a lot of sense for Moyes and would give him a lot more depth and cover ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Xavi contacts Neves over Barcelona move

Barcelona manager Xavi has started talks with Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves over a summer move to Catalonia, according to a fresh transfer rumour.

The Lowdown: Neves exit likely

The 25-year-old has matured into arguably Wolves’ most important player, following a superb 2021/22 season at the heart of Bruno Lage’s midfield.

Neves has been continually linked with a summer move to Barca, however, with the Catalan giants seeing him as a primary transfer target.

While Wolves are clearly desperate to keep hold of such a prized asset, a new update suggests that the Portuguese superstar will be leaving Molineux in the near future.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/all-the-latest-from-wolves-8/” title=”All the latest from Wolves!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Fresh Barca rumour emerges

According to Sport [via Sport Witness], Xavi has picked up the phone and ‘contacted’ Neves regarding a switch to the Camp Nou, with the report adding that the Wolves man is ‘enthusiastic’ about the move.

He is seen as the ‘most viable operation’ in terms of midfield signings, allowing him to compete with Sergio Busquets for playing time.

[freshpress-quiz id=“398117″]

The Verdict: Matter of time?

It really does feel as though it is now a matter of when Neves leaves, rather than if, with his time at Wolves coming to a natural conclusion.

He gave everything he could in 2021/22, featuring in 33 of his side’s 38 Premier League games, also chipping in with a tally of four goals and two assists, but he is now ready to go up another level.

Neves will be a big miss when he does leave but it is hard to begrudge him such a high-profile transfer – the key now is to find a tailor-made replacement, such as the often-linked Joao Palhinha.

Danjuma makes Liverpool transfer claim

Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma has revealed that Liverpool have shown an interest in signing him and that he would ‘consider’ a move to Anfield.

The Lowdown: Danjuma impresses for Villarreal

The 25-year-old has become a key player for Villarreal in recent times, playing his part in them reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2021/22.

Danjuma ended the campaign with ten goals and three assists in La Liga, also netting six times in Europe and coming up against Liverpool in the last four.

The Dutchman has been described as a ‘nightmare for defenders’ by Kevin Phillips and the Reds have been linked with a move for him in the past, with that report even naming him as Sadio Mane’s successor.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-34/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Winger makes Liverpool claim

Speaking to Voetbal Primeur [via Sport Witness], Danjuma confirmed Liverpool’s interest in him and said he would ‘have to consider it’ if a big club comes calling:

“I’m always as honest as possible about it: I’ve never had contact with clubs or anything like that during the season. I always know about my situation after the season; I don’t want to be involved in it at all during the season. But I have been informed that Liverpool were following me closely.

“I will never lie: I think it’s a bad quality if you’re not ambitious. And if a club came along that offered me a higher platform to play on sport-wise, I would always have to consider it.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“398089″]

The Verdict: Great squad option

With speculation continuing to surround Sadio Mane’s future at Liverpool, Danjuma could be a great option to come in as a squad player next season.

He would provide competition for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, bringing direct running and end product to the team. Sixteen goals in 34 appearances for Villarreal is a testament to that.

At 25, he could even be viewed as a long-term regular alongside Diaz and Jota, although whether or not he is quite good enough to be such a key man is arguably up for debate.

Minamino would be ‘nice fit’ for Leeds

Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino could be a ‘really intriguing’ potential signing by Leeds United this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Leeds linked with Minamino

Leeds secured their Premier League status after a dramatic 2-1 win away to Brentford last weekend, so the focus can now turn to new signings in the summer.

One player with whom the Whites have been linked is Minamino, with the Japan international potentially leaving Liverpool after this weekend’s Champions League final and reportedly keen on departing the Reds.

The 27-year-old has struggled for game-time this season, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino all ahead of him in the pecking order at Anfield.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-44/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Minamno could be ‘nice fit’ for Leeds

Jones believes that Minamino could be a shrewd signing by Leeds if they can lure him to Elland Road over the summer.

The journalist told GiveMeSport:

“I think he’s a really nice fit, actually. Minamino is not a bad player at all, he’s just been a victim of Liverpool’s success in a way. He just hasn’t been as good as Jota and Diaz when they’ve come in.

“We saw him against Southampton, what he can still do. I think that Jesse Marsch has a philosophy that Minamino fits in well with. He works hard, he follows orders. It could be a really intriguing one.”

The Verdict: Exciting summer target

Minamino could be a perfect option for Jesse Marsch to bring in this summer, possessing the qualities required to be a success in this Leeds team. He is hard-working and capable of playing across several positions, whether that is in a central or attacking midfield role, or anywhere across the front line.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old has showcased his goalscoring prowess this season, finding the net 10 times in all competitions despite playing just over 1,000 minutes in total and being hailed by his manager Jurgen Klopp as a ‘complete’ player.

He could immediately take Leeds up a gear in the attacking third if they can sign him from Liverpool, so they should make every effort to try and make this move happen.

Spiers hails behaviour of Rangers fans

Graham Spiers has now been hailing the behaviour of Glasgow Rangers supporters in Seville as news emerged from Police in the city.

The Lowdown: Police pleased

As per Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Police in Seville have said that they were ‘pleased’ with the behaviour of supporters from both clubs during the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday night.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Only one arrest was made involving a Frankfurt fan, and no Teddy Bears supporters were arrested, despite some ‘minor scuffles’ shown on social media.

The Latest: Spiers reacts

Taking to Twitter, Scottish football journalist Spiers was left hailing the ‘terrific’ support of the Light Blues fans, after previous concerns expressed about their potential behaviour:

“There was a concern – not least from Rangers FC itself – about fan behaviour in Seville, but I have to say the Rangers fans in Spain came over as fun and warm and colourful. Very appealing: families, kids, lots of females among the fan-base. It looked terrific. Needs to be said.”

The Verdict: Good to hear

It is certainly good to hear that the Gers faithful seemed to be on their best behaviour in Seville, despite losing the final on penalties in what was truly heart-breaking for the club.

After reports of a Nottingham Forest fan being jailed for head-butting Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp after their Championship play-off semi-final win, fan behaviour at grounds has certainly come under scrutiny in recent days, and so it is nice to see RFC supporters show their class when representing their own club in Seville.

Nonetheless, they can still end the season on a high note, if they beat Hearts in the Scottish Cup final over the weekend, when the club will be hoping for more of the same from their supporters.

Liverpool must complete Nketiah transfer

Liverpool have a track record when it comes to signing players from fellow Premier League clubs.

In recent years, the Reds have added faces such as Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and James Milner among others to their ranks from numerous top-flight clubs.

One other player that the Merseyside club struck a deal for from another Premier League side is Diogo Jota.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Back in the 2020 summer transfer window, the Reds bought the winger from Wolves for a reported fee of £41m.

Since then, the Portugal international has been a revelation for Jurgen Klopp’s side, scoring 34 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions.

Now that the next summer window is around the corner, it seems as though FSG could have the chance to replicate their Jota masterclass again with another Premier League talent.

Last week, it was reported that Liverpool are one of the clubs monitoring Eddie Nketiah’s situation at Arsenal, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season and a move away from the north London club looking likely.

This could then give the Reds the opportunity to once again make a swoop to sign another capable Premier League figure.

In 19 league appearances this season, the £9m-rated striker has found the net four times and provided one assist for Mikel Arteta’s side.

He’s also managed to score five goals in five Carabao Cup appearances in this campaign for the Gunners.

According to FBref, in a list of similar players to the Arsenal attacker, Liverpool’s Jota tops the list, which also includes the likes of Roberto Firmino, Kai Havertz, Lautaro Martinez and Christopher Nkunku among others. Fine company indeed for a player who is still relatively inexperienced.

Labelled as a “clinical” player by journalist Kweku Lawrence, Nketiah could give Klopp’s side an extra attacking dynamic to what is already a formidable team going forward.

Taking all of this into account, potentially signing the Arsenal striker on a free transfer this summer could be a great bit of business for FSG and the Reds if he can take his game to the next level and become a more consistent goalscoring threat.

With the chance of winning domestic and European trophies, this could make Anfield a very tempting next destination for the Englishman if he does end up leaving Arsenal in the coming months.

Pep won’t be’ fulfilled’ without UCL crown

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will reportedly not be ‘fulfilled’ at the club until he has made them Champions League winners, according to Sky Sports pundit Alex McLeish.

The Lowdown: New deal almost complete

The 51-year-old is said to have reached an agreement with the club’s hierarchy over a new contract which would keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2025 at the very least, but fans of the Sky Blues will have no doubt felt concerned by what the Spaniard had to say following their recent European exit.

After crashing out of the Champions League following a 6-5 aggregate defeat against Real Madrid last week, Guardiola admitted that he might not be the right man to help City get their hands on the trophy for the first time in their history, and the former Scotland manager has suggested that time is ticking in the club’s hunt for European glory.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-newest-updates/” title=”Man City newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Pep wants Champions League crown

Speaking to Football Insider about Guardiola’s ongoing pursuit of a Champions League triumph with City to add to the two he won at Barcelona, McLeish said:

“Guardiola’s been a phenomenon all over the world. But the one thing that will be eating away at him is this Champions League trophy. It’s escaped him over these last six or seven years.

“The loss against Real Madrid will have been devastating for the mentality at the club, but there’s no way the boardroom at City will be saying: ‘Pep’s got to go’.

“They’re rightly rewarding him with a new contract. I believe he won’t be fulfilled at the club unless he goes on and wins that first Champions League.

“How long can they keep this incredible team they have together?”

The Verdict: Best man for the job

Guardiola came to City back in 2016 and has since gone on to enjoy plenty of success with the club, having guided them to multiple Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup triumphs in that time.

They are currently in a title race with Liverpool, and if they continue to win all of their remaining matches between now and the end of the season, they will be crowned top-flight champions once again by the end of May.

The ex-Barcelona boss, who was once hailed as “inspiring” by Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, might be experiencing some self-doubt regarding what more he could achieve at the club in the future.

However, he has already transformed City into one of the best teams in the world during his six-year spell in charge and definitely has the potential to keep accomplishing great things with them in years to come, having already become the most successful manager in the club’s history.

Celtic duo backed to leave this summer

Celtic goalkeepers Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain should be sold in the summer transfer window, according to former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie.

The Lowdown: Celtic pair out of favour

Joe Hart has been the Bhoys’ undisputed first-choice ‘keeper this season, producing some excellent performances and ensuring that they lie on the cusp of winning the Premiership title.

Two players who have duly featured very sporadically are backup stoppers Barkas and Bain, having made just six appearances between them in all competitions in 2021/22.

The Greece international has been linked with a summer exit in recent days, and it could be the case that both are moved on to pastures new at the end of the season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates-5/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: McAvennie wants Celtic duo gone

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie believes that both Barkas and Bain ought to be offloaded, claiming that they are no longer at the level required for Celtic. The 62-year-old said:

“You wonder who we will bring in. Hart has been absolutely brilliant, maybe the signing of the season and he been reliable.

“Barkas and Bain are absolutely nowhere near the required standard and they haven’t been for a long time. Getting rid of the both, that’s not a problem for me. I have no issues with that.

“It could even be a younger player to come in and learn from Joe Hart.  One thing I can say, is that I have total confidence that whoever we sign will be quality.

“We haven’t really made a bad transfer since Ange came in, he knows what he is doing. So let’s see what happens but I’m more than happy for Bain and Brkas to move on.”

The Verdict: Time for a new challenge

The main thing for Celtic now is for Ange Postecoglou to build a bigger and more superior squad, ensuring that his side enjoy a period of dominance in Scotland, not to mention returning to the Champions League and holding their own in that competition.

Neither Barkas nor Bain have greatly impressed on the rare occasions that they have been given a chance this term, so it’s understandable by McAvennie is calling for the pair to be offloaded over the summer.

While Hart should be first-choice moving forward, a backup of similar quality to him wouldn’t go amiss, and ideally the Hoops will bring in someone who can be genuinely trusted over a sustained period if the English veteran picks up an injury.

A younger alternative would make the most sense, potentially being viewed as the future first-choice between the sticks and eventually usurping the ageing Hart in the role.
