Tottenham Hotspur has been the home to countless attacking talents over the years, many of which have captured the hearts of the fanbase during their time in North London.

Gareth Bale joined the club as a youngster from Southampton, originally as a left-back, but rapidly showcased that he was more than capable of starring within the attacking third.

The Welshman was known for his wand of a left foot, scoring endless strikes from outside the box, before leaving in an £85m deal to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

Striker Teddy Sheringham joined Spurs from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 1992, a deal that looked to be worth every penny, finding the back of the net on 125 occasions.

However, there was one pair within the first team that made history in the Premier League during their respective periods as players with the Lilywhites.

Son & Kane’s stats together at Spurs

Heung-min Son and Harry Kane formed an excellent partnership together at Spurs, combining on countless occasions in front of goal and helping the club achieve some phenomenal results.

The duo combined for 47 goals between one another during their time together in the first-team, the highest tally of any pair in Premier League history.

However, the Englishman would depart in the summer of 2023, joining Bayern Munich and subsequently ending their phenomenal partnership – but leaving as the club’s record scorer, with an unbelievable record of 280 goals.

As for Son, he still remains a key player under Ange Postecoglou, but has been unable to produce the goods without his partner, only scoring six times in the league throughout this campaign.

However, despite the impact of the aforementioned talents, the club may regret not signing one player who’s cemented himself as one of the very best stars in European football over the last few years.

The player who’s now worth more than Son & Kane combined

Despite the talents of the pair, they were unable to fire the Lilywhites to any trophies, with the drought now entering its 17th year after their League Cup triumph in 2008.

However, they certainly would’ve been aided in their attempts had they secured a deal for Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé back during his spell in Ligue 1 with Monaco.

It’s known that Spurs tried to sign the forward after his breakthrough with the French outfit, being quoted a fee in the region of £450k, but were ultimately unable to convince him to leave his homeland.

It’s safe to say he’s gone on to achieve incredible things in the game, starring for his boyhood club, scoring 27 times in his 60 appearances before joining PSG for a whopping £150m in the summer of 2017.

Such a move to the capital would catapult him into the limelight, being a leading talent for the Ligue 1 giants and catching the eye with his displays, becoming one of the best attackers in Europe.

He ended up scoring 256 times in just 310 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, with the thought of him partnering up front with Son and Kane one that could’ve certainly ended the club’s long wait for a trophy.

He’s since moved to Real Madrid this summer, taking his career to the next level, and strengthening Carlo Ancelotti’s side – who are already up there with the best in Europe given their 15 Champions League titles.

The forward has continued his goalscoring form under the Italian, scoring 24 times in his 36 appearances for his new side, creating a deadly partnership with Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior – showing the Lilywhites what could’ve been had they signed him.

As a result of his tremendous displays over the last few years, Mbappé is now valued at £133m by Transfermarkt – a figure higher than that of Son and Kane combined, with the pair only worth a combined £105m.

The pair gave Spurs fans a whole heap of memories during their time featuring together in North London, with their record in front of goal cementing them as one of the best pairs in English top-flight history.

However, there’s no denying the club could’ve reached the next level had they pushed and persisted in a move to land Mbappé during his early years in Monaco.

Cricket Scotland has announced that it will offer paid contracts to players in its international women’s team for the first time.Scotland sit 14th in the ICC’s T20I rankings and missed out on qualification for February’s T20 World Cup in South Africa but will move towards professionalism as part of the board’s bid to make cricket a “fully inclusive” sport in the country.”This builds on the move to pay equal match fees to the men’s and women’s players introduced in 2021 and will enable a number of players to devote more time to training and practice and is a start to putting the women’s game onto a fully professional footing,” Cricket Scotland said in a statement.Scottish cricket was plunged into crisis earlier this year after the publication of a damning report into institutional racism within the sport, and revealed a number of measures on Thursday which the board hopes “will underpin long-term success for the international teams and deliver a more sustainable governing body in the years ahead”.Cricket Scotland will recruit a new head of communications, an EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) manager and a conduct in sport manager, and will not renew contracts of seven staff within the strength and conditioning, physiotherapy and support services provision.”The changes are required to refocus the governing body’s priorities and to establish a strong financial base from which to launch an ambitious new strategy for the sport in the coming months,” the statement said.Gordon Arthur, the board’s interim chief executive, will stay in post until November 2023 on a fixed-term contract “to ensure stability and continuity during this period of substantial restructuring”.Arthur said: “We need to reset and rebuild to ensure that we are in the strongest possible position to deliver real and meaningful change across Scottish cricket. An early first-half strike from James Maddison was enough to defeat Manchester United, who put in another disappointing performance, losing 1-0 away from home against Tottenham Hotspur.

The white side of North London has not been a happy hunting ground for Ruben Amorim’s side this season, with the Red Devils now losing twice away to Spurs.

Maddison’s goal 13 minutes into the game did not kill off United. They had plenty of chances, with many of the best opportunities falling to Alejandro Garnacho. The winger blazed over the bar from 15 yards out with no defender around him and missed a one-on-one and a shot from range in the second half.

According to the stats on Sofascore, the visitors actually had more big chances than Spurs, with two compared to one for the home side. Amorim’s side had six shots on target compared to seven for the Lilywhites. They certainly had opportunities to win the game.

It was certainly a disappointing day at the office for the Red Devils, who had chances to win the game but simply could not take them, eventually leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium without a point to show for their efforts. However, there were some standout players on Sunday afternoon for United.

United’s best players vs. Spurs

One of the best players for Amorim’s side on Sunday was new addition, Patrick Dorgu. He played at left wing-back, after a debut on the opposite flank, and performed well. United content creator Alice Talks Footy described his efforts as “impressive” against Spurs.

Indeed, the stats from the game suggest he played well. The Dane, who overlapped excellently, managed to create two chances, although the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Garnacho could not capitalise. He was also brilliant off the ball, winning eight out of nine duels.

Another standout player for United was Noussair Mazraoui. The summer signing played at right centre-back, and dealt with Djed Spence and Son Heung-min well, despite the obvious threat they carry, making some crucial challenges.

Someone who was complimentary of Mazraoui was journalist Alex Turk, writing for The Express. He gave the Moroccan defender a 7/10 for his efforts, explaining that he ‘defended well’ and noted that he ‘produced some big blocks’ to help keep the score at 1-0.

Mazroaui also created a golden chance for Joshua Zirkzee in the second half, and although the Dutchman didn’t score, it was about the only thing he did wrong against Spurs. He too was a standout player.

One of the best players to represent United and Spurs was Dimitar Berbatov. There were certainly shades of the Bulgarian striker in Zirkzee’s performance against the Lilywhites, as there has been all season.

In a separate post on X from Alice, she described the silky United striker as a “natural footballer”, much like Berbatov, who was once called an “outstanding” player by United great Gary Neville.

Watching his link-up play, excellent close control and brilliant skill, it was certainly reminiscent of the former United number nine. Indeed, journalist Charlie Parrish hinted at that comparison, while also suggesting that the former Bologna man “belongs to a different era”.

Zirkzee’s stats show just how well he played in North London. The Dutchman had 49 touches of the ball and completed 82% of his passes. He also completed two dribbles and created one chance, although did lose nine duels.

In his post-match ratings, Turk gave Zirkzee a 7/10 for his efforts. He explained he was ‘nice and tidy on the ball’ and made ‘clever passes aplenty’, although did criticise him for the missed header from Mazraoui’s cross, about the only thing he did wrong.

United’s number 11 was called the “Man of the Match” by the aforementioned Alice for his display, and it was not hard to see why. Everything good United did came through him, and it will certainly please Amorim to see the 23-year-old performing so well.

أكد علاء عبده المدرب العام لـ منتخب مصر للشباب تحت 20 عامًا، أن مجموعة الفراعنة في كأس العالم، جاءت متوسطة ومتوازنة إلى حد كبير.

وأقيمت قرعة كأس العالم تحت 20 عامًا، صباح اليوم الجمعة، وأسفرت عن وقوع منتخب مصر في المجموعة الأولى، بجانب منتخبات تشيلي واليابان ونيوزيلاند.

وستقام بطولة كأس العالم للشباب، في تشيلي خلال الفترة من 27 سبتمبر حتى 18 أكتوبر القادمين، بمشارك 24 منتخبًا.

وقال عبده خلال تصريحات عبر المركز الإعلامي للاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم: “مجموعة مصر متوازنة هي ليست سهلة أو صعبة مقارنة بالمجموعات التي ضمت منتخبات عربية وإفريقية”.

وتابع: “اليابان منتخب كبير ويمتاز بالسرعة والقوة، ونيوزيلندا لن تكون سهلة، أما تشيلي فإن البطولة على أرضها ووسط جماهيرها وهي مميزات كبيرة بالنسبة لها”.

وأكمل: “كل المنتخبات المشاركة فى كأس العالم لها كل التقدير والاحترام لأنها الأفضل في كل القارات ونحن نتطلع إلى تقديم صورة تليق باسم مصر مع كل أفراد الجهاز الفني بقيادة الكابتن أسامة نبيه المدير الفني واللاعبين”.

وأتم: “نتطلع لخوض فترة إعداد قوية واختيار المجموعة الأفضل من اللاعبين لتمثيل مصر في الحدث العالمي الكبير”.

Mehidy, who scored his maiden ODI century in the process, said he loved that despite being a senior player, Mahmudullah, who made 77, listened to his advice of taking the game deep.”We never had a target in mind,” Mehidy said. “We lost six wickets. So [the thinking was] how many could we score? We tried to take one ball at a time and build a small partnership and not think about setting a target. We tried to play to the situation and talked to each other regularly.”I liked that he respected me even though he is the senior player. He listened to me when I pointed out that he was panicking. I told him not to attack at times and to take the game deeper. The small conversations helped us in our partnership.”Mehidy and Mahmudullah got together on 69 for 6. When Mahmudullah fell, Bangladesh were 217 for 7 with 23 balls left in the innings. But Mehidy and Nasum Ahmed then added 54, with Nasum hitting 18 not out off 11 balls. Mehidy admitted to being surprised by Nasum’s innings.”I wanted to bat out the 50 overs and aimed for 240-250, which would have been tough to chase,” Mehidy said. “[But] Nasum batted outstandingly and his 18 runs were vital. Credit to him for scoring so quickly.”Defending 271, Bangladesh overcame half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel to have a firm grip over the match. With 65 needed from 45 balls, Rohit Sharma, who took a blow to his left thumb while fielding and had to get stitches, walked out and got the chase down to the wire. He reduced the equation to six needed off the final ball before Mustafizur Rahman nailed the yorker to seal the deal.Mehidy, though, said that the 48th over – a maiden by Mustafizur to Mohammed Siraj – was the turning point. That left India needing 40 from 12 balls.”We were prepared for Rohit Sharma and our bowlers knew what to do,” he said. “We had to take ten wickets to win the game. He played really well. But our bowlers also did well, especially at the start. They [Iyer and Axar] had a partnership, but we overcame that too. Mustafizur, Ebadot [Hossain], Shakib [Al Hasan] all bowled well. I didn’t do as expected, as I had cramps.”We believed we could win. We knew a wicket would have given us the advantage. Mustafizur’s maiden over was the turning point. He bowled really well in that over.”

Leeds United have taken massive strides in the Championship over the last couple of months to make amends after last season’s play-off final defeat against Southampton.

Such a result could’ve completely derailed all the progress made since Daniel Farke’s appointment the summer prior, but it appears to have spurred them on in their ambitions of securing promotion.

The Whites currently sit top of the table with just over 10 games remaining, in pole position to end their two-year stay in England’s second tier come the end of the season.

Numerous players have starred throughout the campaign, aiming to replicate the success of the 2019/20 season, which saw the club secure promotion under Marcelo Bielsa.

One player played a key role during the aforementioned campaign, cementing himself in the hearts of the fanbase forever given his efforts at Elland Road.

Pablo Hernandez’s stats at Leeds United

Spanish midfielder Pablo Hernandez joined Leeds on loan for the first half of the 2016/17 season, before subsequently joining permanently that January, given his early form in Yorkshire.

After making his move permanent, the former Swansea City star would make over 150 appearances for the Whites, cementing his place as a regular at the heart of the side.

He would regularly star in the Championship, registering over 10 combined goals and assists in every season he appeared in, making himself a fan-favourite with the supporters.

Given his form under Bielsa, he rapidly became one of the club’s best Championship performers, even being the shining light in difficult moments on the pitch before the Argentine’s arrival.

Hernandez would depart in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer, ending his four-year spell with the Whites, with his time at the club unforgettable given the moments of magic he produced.

However, in the current squad, Farke has one star who could emulate the Spaniard’s success at Elland Road, already appearing to be above the current level after his move to Yorkshire.

In the summer, Leeds lost numerous players after their failure to secure promotion, but such dealings also allowed for investment into the current squad – leading to the success they’ve enjoyed in recent months.

One of the additions made as a result was that of Japanese international Ao Tanaka, who has excelled beyond the wildest imagination of any Whites’ supporter.

The 26-year-old joined for a fee in the region of £3.5m from German outfit Fortuna Düsseldorf in the off-season, arriving as an unknown quantity to many, but has since adhered himself to the supporters.

Tanaka, who’s previously been dubbed “unbelievable” by boss Farke, has become a pivotal part of the first-team squad, starting 26 of the 34 outings to date, having a huge impact at both ends of the pitch at Elland Road.

He’s registered five combined goals and assists in 2024/25, including one strike against Sheffield United last night, edging the side ahead in the crucial promotion clash.

His underlying stats have been just as impressive, highlighting how key he’s been out of possession, winning the ball and allowing himself and other players to star in forward areas.

Given his form in the Championship since his summer move, he’s certainly up there with one of the best additions of the season, looking to be a bargain and a player ready for the step-up to the Premier League.

Tanaka’s emergence is one of the examples of the recruitment conducted by the hierarchy over the last couple of years, following in the footsteps of Hernandez with his talent catapulting the side to their success.

Should they continue their current form, the Whites will achieve their goal of returning to the top-flight, with the Japanese star likely to play a key role at the level above – representing how much of an impressive addition he’s been to Farke’s side.
