Arsenal are ready to put no less than £59 million on the table to sign a “crazy” Serie A superstar who has scored 14 goals this season, according to a new report.

Arsenal have had a difficult few weeks. After losing the first-leg of their EFL Cup semifinal clash with Newcastle United, Mikel Arteta’s side were then dumped out of the FA Cup by struggling Manchester United on penalties.

A win over North London rivals Tottenham followed, but at the weekend, the Gunners again came unstuck, drawing 2-2 with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

To add insult to injury, it was confirmed last week that striker Gabriel Jesus, who had been in a rich vein of form with six goals in his last five games, sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the defeat to United. The Brazilian is set to undergo surgery for the injury, and is now expected to miss the rest of the season.

In wake of Jesus’ season-ending injury, Arteta confirmed that the Gunners will be looking to sign a new forward this month.

“My answer doesn’t change,” Arteta said last week when asked about signing a new forward. “We are actively looking in the market to improve the squad and that has been since day one.

“We would be naive not to do that because it is an opportunity, always, to evolve the team and improve the squad, and especially with the circumstances that we have. So yes, we are looking and we are trying, and let’s see what we are able to do.”

One striker who is reportedly interesting Arsenal is Inter Milan and France star Marcus Thuram. The 27-year-old has 14 goals and six assists in 26 games for Inter this season, and according to TV Play, via Sports Witness, Arsenal are now prepared to table as much as £59 million for him.

The publication says Thuram is Arteta’s “big dream” but that Inter won’t be willing to part ways with him in January, meaning the Spaniard will have to wait until the summer to land his man.

Thuram, who joined Inter in the summer of 2023 from Borussia Monchengladbach, has previously been described as “crazy” by his former Gladbach teammate Denis Zakaria.

“He is a great guy, a little crazy maybe, but what he brings to the pitch is phenomenal,” said the Swiss midfielder.

Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer has also called him a “world class striker,” while Thuram’s ex-Gladbach boss Daniel Farke once described him as “an exceptional player of the highest international class”.

Big, strong, fast and a clinical finisher, Thuram would certainly be a fine acquisition for any club, let alone Arsenal, who are in dire need of a new striker, and not just because of Jesus’ injury. Kai Havertz has yet to prove he has what he takes to lead the line and score regular goals for the Gunners. Thuram has been doing exactly that for Inter.

قدم المدير الفني لفريق ريال مدريد، كارلو أنشيلوتي، آخر التحديثات الخاصة بشأن بفريقه قبل مواجهة إشبيلية في الدوري الإسباني.

ويواجه ريال مدريد خصمه إشبيلية ضمن منافسات الجولة 37 من منافسات الدوري الإسباني “لاليجا”، على ملعب “رامون سانشيز بيزخوان”، غداً الأحد.

ويحتل ريال مدريد المركز الثاني في سلم ترتيب الدوري الإسباني برصيد 78، بينما يأتي إشبيلية في المركز الرابع عشر برصيد 41 نقطة.

The return of David Moyes to Everton was met with great fanfare after the Scottish manager replaced Sean Dyche at the helm for the remainder of the final season at Goodison Park.

People often say that players and managers should avoid going back to a place where they have already been successful, at risk of tainting the legacy set the first time, but it has been a terrific start to his second spell.

The Toffees have won two of his three Premier League matches in charge so far, beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 and Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0, after losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in his first game.

Moyes has got the players going and helped them to move seven points clear of the relegation zone, as they look to move well clear of the battle to avoid dropping down to the Championship at the end of the season.

Despite a strong start to his second spell at Goodison, the former Manchester United and West Ham boss is still looking to bolster his squad before the end of the January transfer window.

The deadline is next week and the Toffees are reportedly looking to bring in a forward who could be their next Romelu Lukaku…

Romelu Lukaku's Everton career

The Belgium international initially joined the club on loan from Chelsea for the 2013/14 campaign and was an instant hit on Merseyside, with a return of 15 goals and seven assists in 31 Premier League matches.

Lukaku came in as a player with top-flight experience, having played for West Brom on loan the previous season, and hit the ground running as a reliable outlet at the top end of the pitch.

The Belgian marksman’s sublime form on loan convinced the Toffees to splash a club-record fee of £28m to sign him permanently from Chelsea in the summer of 2014, which turned out to be a fantastic piece of business.

As you can see in the table above, Lukaku went on to score 20 or more goals in all three of his seasons as a permanent Everton player after his £28m switch from Stamford Bridge, which shows that the club certainly got their money’s worth for him.

The Toffees then made a gigantic profit on the powerful centre-forward when Manchester United signed him for a reported fee of £75m in the summer of 2017, after his 26-goal haul in the 2016/17 campaign.

Everton could, now, repeat the masterclass they played with Lukaku by swooping for another loan striker from a Premier League side this month.

According to The Athletic, in a piece written by David Ornstein, Everton are one of a number of clubs interested in a late move for Brighton centre-forward Evan Ferguson.

The report claims that the Toffees are keen on a deal for the Ireland international and are lining up a swoop to bring him to Goodison Park on loan for the next four months or so.

It states that Brighton are open to sending the 20-year-old number nine out on a temporary deal if a move suits all parties, but it remains to be seen where they would be willing to send him.

The Athletic adds that West Ham United and Bournemouth, who are dealing with injuries to their own strikers, are among the other teams in the race to land the Brighton academy graduate before next week’s deadline.

It also reveals that there are clubs from Germany interested in Ferguson but that a move to the Premier League is the most likely scenario at this moment in time, which could come as a boost for the Toffees, although they still have to fend off interest from the Hammers and the Cherries.

Like the Belgian forward, Ferguson cuts an imposing figure, at 6 foot, at the top end of the pitch and could provide the team with a presence in the number nine position.

It is the 20-year-old attacker’s finishing qualities, however, that could see him emerge as Lukaku 2.0 at Goodison Park, because he has proven himself to be lethal inside the box at Premier League level.

Injuries have hampered his attempts to become a regular starter at Brighton, as he has missed 24 games through injury since the start of last season, but the potential is there for him to be a star if Everton can bring him in and keep the youngster fit.

One of Lukaku’s biggest strengths during his time as a permanent player at Goodison was his lethal nature in front of goal. He scored 53 goals from 49.16 xG across three Premier League seasons after his £28m move, which illustrates how ruthless he was for the club.

Ferguson, who was hailed as “phenomenal” by teammate James Milner, has shown similar qualities in his limited game time for Brighton in recent seasons, which suggests that he has the potential to be a star for the Toffees if it all comes together.

O Corinthians começou apertando a saída de bola do Atlético-GO, dificultando a saída do time da casa. Mesmo assim, o Dragão era a melhor equipe e teve a primeira oportunidade.

James Kirtley says that the turmoil behind the scenes at Sussex is “an obvious distraction” to the players, after it was revealed that Ian Salisbury, his fellow head coach, was “not currently part of the business” following a non-cricketing dispute with one of his players.Salisbury had been in charge of Sussex’s Championship and 50-over team since November 2020, with Kirtley taking over the T20 set-up in the same timeframe following the departure of their predecessor Jason Gillespie.However, with the club currently second-from-bottom in the County Championship and battling to avoid defeat in their final match of the season against Glamorgan, it is understood that Salisbury has been placed on gardening leave, due to his handling of the 21-year-old spinner, Jack Carson.Carson, who debuted as a teenager in the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020, was Sussex’s leading wicket-taker in both that competition and the 2021 County Championship. However, having missed the start of the 2022 season following knee surgery, all three of his appearances in the current campaign have come in the past fortnight, since Salisbury’s departure.That includes the ongoing contest against Glamorgan at Hove, but speaking to the BBC at the close of the second day’s play, Kirtley was coy about the circumstances at the club.”We can’t make any further comment on that. The Whites took the lead in the match after just 17 minutes when Manor Solomon provided a deft flick through to Joel Piroe, who buried a clinical finish into the bottom corner with his left foot.

Jayden Bogle provided the second goal for Daniel Farke’s men with a marauding run down the right that eventually led to the goalkeeper spilling the ball right back to the defender, who poked it into an almost-empty net.

It was an impressive team performance from the West Yorkshire outfit, but there were some individuals within that who let themselves down, including Brenden Aaronson.

The USA international, who Football FanCast suggested should have been dropped, was selected in the number ten position, and struggled to have a positive impact on the match.

Aaronson was described as ‘wasteful’ in the final third by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth in his player ratings piece, which summed up the attacking midfielder’s performance perfectly.

The former Union Berlin loanee had several big chances to play the right pass to send a teammate through on goal in a two-on-one situation and failed to get it right, ending the match without any ‘big chances’ created.

Aaronson, who also failed to register a shot on target in the game, was not the only poor performer on the night, though, as Dan James’s display also left plenty to be desired.

Why Dan James should be dropped

The Wales international should be ruthlessly dropped by Farke for the FA Cup clash with Millwall on Saturday after an underwhelming showing on Wednesday night.

James played 86 minutes against the Sky Blues and failed to do enough to justify his continued inclusion in the starting line-up with a cup clash, which provides the manager with a chance to rotate his team, on the horizon.

The forward had fewer touches (28) than his goalkeeper Illan Meslier (44), which offers an insight into how little of an impact he had on the match, and was not directly involved in either of the goals.

As you can see in the table above, both James and Aaronson failed to offer much in the way of quality at the top end of the pitch for the Whites against Coventry.

The Welsh speedster missed his ‘big chance’ to find the back of the net and did not create a single opportunity for his teammates, whilst he also completed just 69% of his attempted passes.

These statistics show that James was as bad as Aaronson, who also struggled and was wasteful in possession, and that is why Farke should use the upcoming cup clash to ditch both of them from the XI.
